"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was not a democracy yet that did not commit suicide". ---John Adams

Myk Murphy:
that's a very sweet thing for jen to send you, theo. john adams, eh? oddly enough, i'm related to him, on my mom's side. i'm certainly hoping that the adams presidents are the last father-son presidential team, but bush got a questionable win yesterday. the non-activist GOP side of the US supreme court just got very activist! the big loser here is bush's legitimacy (if he wins) and the courts' illusion of non-partisanship (no matter who wins). as for MWP, heruka, he came across as a bitter fellow who could taste fame but didn't quite get there. he took unprompted shots at bono (singing a bit from "who's gonna ride your wild horses"). when challenged by one of the many annoyed members of the audience, he gestured as if the audience member should come up and play the 12-string instead of him. considering that marty isn't exactly a virtuoso on the thing (getting plenty of shimmer and jangle out of 6 chords on a 12-string simply isn't that hard), he really shouldn't spend time insulting other songwriters. of course, those songwriters had the nerve to become much more famous than marty... i doubt they lose sleep each night wondering "god... i wish i could write like marty willson-fucking-piper!"

I wish that Hitchcock chap would scribble me a little note. I've undertaken considerable risk to see him in Europe AND I've welcomed him into my city. So there.

I guess I am not worthy.

Stay away from politics..stay away from politics... Browns lost agian. Big surprise. I thought for sure cause I was there they would have been inspired. I don't blame them. They've got most of the team out cause of injuries. It's ok. I don't think I would want them to win the Superbowl anyhow. If they did, I'm not sure how I would take it.Probably stop watching them all together. Next week. We'll get 'em! I'll be at that one also. Went to see Glen Campell today. The Rhinestone Cowboy himself. Only cause he played right down the street from me. Almost literally. At the high school. He's quite a good guitarist. My girlfriend and me. An ex, we recently ran into each other. She's back from college. Smart girl. Can't be that smart if she's going out with me though. Ha! The thing about the Blues for me is, it's an extremely personnal experience. The only time you'll catch me seriously listening to it is when I'm at home alone. I listen to it with my nephew, but that's only cause he's into it. That's my fault. The Blues is NOT music for casual listening music. It's far too emotional. It's basically human experience and emotions put to music. You have different types of course. From Delta to Chicago to Detroit to slide etc.... But the core remains the same. I think this is why the popularity has grown over the past ten years. In a World that's becoming increasingly expendible, this is something that means something. This could also explain Nick Drakes increased popularity this past year. I think each city should have it's own giant rock. Right in the middle of the town. This way if people don't want their children, which seems to be increasingly more common, thay can just go down and smash their childrens head against the rock. Their will be a disposal can nearby. Every morning we'll have city employees go and collect the bodies. Clean and efficiant. Has anyone else noticed the increased mentality that something is owed to someone just cause they were born? That's not very articulate. It seems the media and advertising are now telling people that they deserve things(the item being advertised) simply cause they are alive. I point to the recent Mercedes commercial to back me up. We're becoming our own dieties. It's really sad. Self gratifying. Egocentric. I'm not condemning. I'm this way myself. Right now I'm smoking an Ashton cigar. It costs almost 10 bucks. What a waste. I want....I want....I want.... I'm terribly embarrassed by it all. I'm only flesh, and it's only life. It cramps your handwriting and dulls what little style you have. This time next year, half of my family will no longer live in Ohio. Wonder if I should follow suite. Hmmm. New York has been calling. Hmmm. Indecisive and uncertain in life. Hmmm.

“From 1921 the psychologist John B Watson was employed in advertising. He spent the rest of his life applying Behaviourism to the prediction and control of human behaviour. Psychologists have been involved in advertising ever since. Make them dissatisfied with what they’ve got … make them desire the new product!”

(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 9:25:44 am)

Chewing Wax:

I'm glad I had that tetanus shot the other day because I stabbed my finger with a big staple this morning.
(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 10:09:47 am)

Chewing Wax:
Timing is everything. I hope you're alright.
(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 10:13:43 am)

Myk Murphy:
it's important to aim the stapler toward the paper, and avoid placing objects in the way, such as fingers, toes, noses, eyelids, etc.
(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 10:18:24 am)

Myk Murphy:
i also wonder who this ms rundell is. she's fond of theo, certainly.
(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 10:19:37 am)

Chewing Wax:
It's those cheap Chinese staplers. Every so often one comes zinging out the wrong way. She's lucky it didn't lodge in her brain.
(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 10:19:50 am)

Myk Murphy:
how could the mainland have a successful peasant marxist revolution (with a total absence of urban proletariat) when they can't even build a goddamn stapler?
(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 10:21:33 am)

Sleepy:
I can't remember how the staple mishap occured. It's all a blur of metal and muffled screams and oozing blood and running water. And now I'm ok. Hoorah.
(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 10:28:52 am)

Sleepy:
Actually, I don't think I muffled my scream at all.
(Mon Dec 11, 2000 - 10:29:16 am)

Sleepy:
Cushca and Mrs Dr GB aren't at work today. I am alone here.
