Chewing Wax:
I took some great pictures of the back yard during the storm. I'll download them this evening.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:02:57 am)
Squi:
I can't find my fucking nuts.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:03:51 am)
Myk Murphy:
it's as if DC doesn't get pounded with snow. we do, just not 15 times a winter. yes, people panic and hurry to the supermarket to hoard milk and toilet paper, sometimes without a car, but it's not a catastrophe. the important thing is to check on the elderly, and tell the fat 60 year old guy that you'll shovel his driveway so he doesn't kill himself doing it. oh yeah, and have fun.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:05:22 am)
Chewing Wax:
That's lack of planning isn't it?
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:05:28 am)
Myk Murphy:
it's loads of fun when you've dug out your car and then return to see it's been blocked in by a snow plow's 4 foot mound.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:07:35 am)
Myk Murphy:
no one plans well for this sort of thing. the buffalo kids on their 4-hour bus rides... we've had that happen around here, too, but parents should relax. the kids are alright. i can't think of a safer place to be than a schoolbus moving at 5 miles per hour.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:11:18 am)
Cushca:
I think you might find, Myk, that it's not so much fun at the moment for Wax. And that someone saying it's a lot of fun and just a minor thing when someone is not having a nice time with it all could perhaps lead to some feelings of anger.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:11:55 am)
Cushca:
I think. Maybe.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:12:54 am)
Chewing Wax:
I'm not angry. I'm just giving him shit. Decoy is angry. Decoy is sensitive and quick to anger. But actually, this wasn't just any snow storm. It was the third largest 24 hour snow fall in Buffalo history, falling four inches an hour for three hours right during rush hour.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:14:53 am)
Myk Murphy:
true enough, cushca, but when most americans think of the residents of buffalo, they picture people who laugh at snow. people who live in magical snow huts. people who are not troubled by weather that would make other parts of the country shut down for a week. i should know: that kind of weather HAS shut us down for a week.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:15:06 am)
:
C'mon dance!
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:16:47 am)
Chewing Wax:
We'll be dug out by this evening. Martial law should be lifted by the end of the week and the troops should leave our houses within a month.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:16:50 am)
Chewing Wax:
But let's talk about sport. How 'bout them Redskins.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:17:56 am)
Myk Murphy:
before decoy assesses my "thinking to speaking" ratio, he should remember that decoy's lounge has not yet installed a "western new york snow misery meter" for visitors to accurately monitor the region. i heard that buffalo was getting a big snow, and it sounded like a bit of fun. heresy, apparently.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:19:33 am)
Myk Murphy:
the redskins saved their season last night, and may feel up to winning two NFC east games in a row. that's the plan, anyway.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:20:21 am)
Chewing Wax:
Awesome. The Bills have their work cut out for them for the next three weeks, playing the Bucs and the Colts on the road and Miami at home.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:21:51 am)
Chewing Wax:
My lack of planning comment was about Squi's nuts.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:22:48 am)
Myk Murphy:
yikes. that could be a tough one, although the bucs are quite beatable.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:23:32 am)
Chewing Wax:
I hope so.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:24:36 am)
Myk Murphy:
yeah, but it made for a nifty segue into the benefits of school buses.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:24:58 am)
Chewing Wax:
true
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:26:30 am)
Myk Murphy:
is the whole region getting snowed on, or just buffalo? i recall decoy mentioning that the buffalo radio mentioned blizzard while he was flake-free. in our area, a blizzard covers everything but perhaps the eastern shore. we have no lake for lake effect. we have to make our snow with good old-fashioned canadian air and wet gulf stream.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:38:24 am)
Chewing Wax:
It was just a very persistant band of lake effect. They are thin bands of snow that whip north and south, but this one stayed over Buffalo. It was probably only four miles thick. It's dumping snow to the south now. It's perfectly clear and sunny out in Buffalo right now. It extended towards Rochester but stopped about eight miles to the west. Rochester always gets more snow then Buffalo by the end of the winter. They'll get theirs.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:41:14 am)
Chewing Wax:
But you're right. Technically it wasn't a blizzard.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:42:34 am)
Myk Murphy:
no, i'm not saying it wasn't a blizzard. clearly, 2 feet in one day is blizzard quantity. it's just that our storms are never localized.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:44:27 am)
Chewing Wax:
This picture from the Buffalo News is right around the corner from my house.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:44:35 am)
:
a very persistant band of "a house, a lake, a lake house" effect.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:53:22 am)
Sleepy:
In Britain the whole country falls to pieces the moment a snowflake is spotted in the sky. Actually, the whole country has already fallen to pieces and it's not even snowing.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:53:25 am)
Chewing Wax:
Lake house effect. Yes.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:56:29 am)
Chewing Wax:
I wonder how much snow it would take to bring down that Millenium Dome.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:56:55 am)
Chewing Wax:
I'm hungry
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:57:56 am)
Myk Murphy:
drivers around here are horrible in snow. they buy big SUVs and don't realize that slow-speed traction does not translate into high speed braking capability on slick roads. the "more weight = more stopping distance" equation is also foreign to them. i like my SUV, but not parked in a ditch or flipped over.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 11:59:34 am)
Myk Murphy:
off to the bank and perhaps food. be back soon.
(Tue Nov 21, 2000 - 12:00:30 pm)
