Froupie:
last night some guy tried to impress me by balancing a pint of lager on top of his head.
(Sun Jun 27, 2004 - 12:24:47 pm)

Decoy:
Well? Did it work?
(Sun Jun 27, 2004 - 1:49:45 pm)

Decoy:
We had a guy on the hall at school who would balance large pieces of furniture on his chin.

Look out:
on June 27 and June 29 the Earth is also
subject to an extremely close approach by two little known asteroids. The
first, on June 27, is designated 25143 Itokawa. Information is sparse on
Itokawa, but what is known is that the asteroid is approximately 0.36
kilometers wide and on June 27 it will come within 0.0128968 Astronomical
Units of Earth. An Astronomical Unit (AU) is equal to 149,597,871
kilometers, so Itokawa will pass us by at less than a hundred miles

Froupie:
it didnt really impress me, no

Froupie:
the morrissey gig last night was great. some guy behind me kept shouting "I love ya Moz, i love ya more than me fookin kids!, i love ya more than me fookin wife!!"... Morrissey fans are insane.
(Sun Jun 27, 2004 - 4:33:02 pm)

Froupie:
he also has this mental fan form boston called Julia. apparently she is absolutely loaded and spends all her time and money following morrissey around the world. she once sent him a gift of a gold rolex and an oscar wilde first edition. he then ordered a restraining order against her, but kept the gifts. she was there last night of course, right at the front. shes anorexic and looks like a heroin addict.

Myk Murphy:
wow, that would be terrifying... a wealthy stalker with nothing but time on her hands. i'll have to send julia some info about our band... i can't speak for the other guys, but i could always use another watch.

I spent a fantastic sunny sunday afternoon in portland drinking coffee and shopping for vinyl with Rick. I bought john mellencamp's "american fool" and the soundtrack from taxi driver and john denver's greatest hits. the record store was playing the most god-awful miles davis freeform jazz nightmare that was making us both insane, and rick went and bought it right out of the cd player just to make it stop. he's going to destroy it tomorrow on the air. He said he would have snapped it in half right in front of the clerk except that they're advertisers and he didn't want to piss them off. I thought that would be a great scene for a movie. A guy goes up to the counter and says, "What is that you're playing? I MUST have it!" and they give it to him and he pays for it and then he just snaps it in half and hands them the pieces and says "thank you" and walks away. I'm gonna use that someday.
(Sun Jun 27, 2004 - 9:39:43 pm)

Myk Murphy:
that's a wonderful story, if just that i share the same loathing for miles' jazz deconstructionist crap, post-1966 or sometime thereabouts. i'm a huge fan of his traditional work, but only a hatred for jazz or a total transcendence could spawn such pain for a listener. oh well, it's hard to keep up with genius. nowadays, i'm very cautious to check the year of recording when shopping for his work... i've been hurt before.

(Sun Jun 27, 2004 - 10:37:42 pm)

Queenie:
the best part of that Miles CD was the thick booklet that came with it in which many musical wankers wank endlessly about its brilliance. I mean, I really can't express to you how it made my fucking skin crawl. And yet he's the same man who did "Kind of Blue" which is one of my all-time fave CDs. Go figure.

I told Rick that, as much as they try to teach you otherwise in school, a lot of great music was perhaps made greater by the artists' use of illegal substances, but jazz is the one genre most certainly NOT improved by drugs.
(Sun Jun 27, 2004 - 10:45:23 pm)

Heruka:
sure it was.

The ultimate Emperor's New Clothes, right up there with Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, but at least Lou Reed did it on purpose.
(Sun Jun 27, 2004 - 10:50:34 pm)

Myk Murphy:
wow, that must have been awful. the front jacket is both a fascinating historical document and a troubling art object. i'm sure that the music inside could be described thus, as well.
(Sun Jun 27, 2004 - 11:15:48 pm)

Froupie:
