Any idea what this means???HTTP Error 405

What the fuck is a "mime type"?? Is that like walking in the wind vs trapped in a big, invisible box?
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 2:51:40 pm)
Decoy:
Web servers have to have the mime types set or they don't know what to do with the data types. They come configured by default to deal with txt, html, css, etc. You have to tell it what to do with those types and what they are - mostly so the browser can load the right programs.

How can I tell if my CGI script is NT compatible?
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 4:12:01 pm)

God kill me now.

I'm a fucking designer! I don't know this shit! AAAhhhhhhhh!!!!!
On the bright side, my Short Film idea is moving along nicely. Will feature an actor/comedian friend of mine who will be playing three brothers.
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 4:15:15 pm)
Decoy:
You need to use absolute paths on NT, and relative (to root) paths on Unix. NT is actually easier to set up in my opinion. You can also use a standard text editor to edit the scripts instead of some hellish terminal program like vi or joe.
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 4:18:28 pm)
Queenie:
But how can I tell if my script is for NT or not?
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 4:19:47 pm)
Queenie:
Please kill me.
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 4:19:58 pm)
Queenie:
I mean, I KNOW that I'm working with an NT server, but how do I make sure that my CGI script will work on it? Although I guess it doesn't work on it, obviously.
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 4:20:47 pm)
Decoy:
The script is compiled at runtime by perl5, so it's not system specific; other than if you are using perl for windows, you use absolute paths, and on Unix, you use relative paths. Does that help? The point is that the interpreter is system specific, not the script.
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 4:55:19 pm)
Chewing Wax:
Good luck with all that. I'm going home to sleep this one off. Good night.
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 5:04:08 pm)
Queenie:
So this form should work on both UNIX and NT?
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 5:07:34 pm)
Queenie:
I emailed the server about it. Now they're pissed too.
"Your customer requires to hire somebody who is familiar with CGI scripting. Please note that we only have a web hosting agreement with the client and there is no maintenance contract to resolve coding problems."

Great. Now I have another client hounding me for something that should have been simple that's become a lot more complicated. Death. Now.

I heard that George Lucas will not be releasing The Phantom Menace or any of the other Star Wars movies on DVD because he's worried about piracy. What an anus.

I just got an email informing me that I have to have that form working by tomorrow so that I can overnight the whole site on a CD to Rhode Island. What the fuck am I going to do???
(Mon Sep 25, 2000 - 6:50:35 pm)
Decoy:
Q: Well, the likelyhood of it working on a different server is remote (ha) anyway. The configuration is server/IP address specific. That should hold the barbarians at the gate one more day. I'm home now, I'll look at the script if you want to mail it to me -decoy@chewingwax.com. Did you read the faq? You need to know some stuff like the IP address and domain it will run on (or spammers can hijack it), the location of the mail program, the location of the perl executable, and you need to set rights to some directories.

'Very few things more frustrating than when you have a simple task before that you cannot in anyway accomplish. And you are sure you did it right. Well, post a note here if I should check my email. No guarrantees, but I'll look for obvious stuff.
