Myk Murphy:
yeah, froupie, islam is present in the states, but in comparison to europe, it's very small. i think john ashcroft has personally visited each and every US muslim just to scare the crap out of them.

Heruka:
I'm outta here. gouing into work after all.

(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:28:10 am)

Froupie:
you shouldnt believe everything you read heruka. we have a huge muslim community over here and surprising theyre not all out in the streets raping and pillaging.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:28:20 am)

Heruka:
you're naive, Froupie. and your children will pay the price.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:29:15 am)

Froupie:
fack off.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:29:24 am)

Froupie:
you believe what you wanna believe.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:30:11 am)

Froupie:
i chose not to be so prejudiced and racist.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:30:30 am)

Myk Murphy:
i'll buy those numbers, heruka. a nasty mix of cultural misogyny, repression, and culture shock makes a rapist.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:31:11 am)

Myk Murphy:
you tell 'em, froupie.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:31:57 am)

Froupie:
its not just muslim men though is it? there are plenty of other cultures that repress women.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:32:49 am)

Myk Murphy:
the radio feature on apple's iTunes app is pretty good.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:32:49 am)

Froupie:
should i buy a mac? im using a fabulous one at college its tempting me.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:33:35 am)

Myk Murphy:
yes, but the muslim men have elevated female repression to an artform. i can't think of any rivals for that crown.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:34:01 am)

Myk Murphy:
i'm not using a mac. they have iTunes for PC. mac is nice, but too expensive. hard to get the latest freeware/shareware app when you need it. "oh, it's only for PC" is what you'll find yourself saying a little too often.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:35:05 am)

Froupie:
hmmm, it did confuse me a bit at first, but im using it for design work.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:35:38 am)

Myk Murphy:
macs are dominant in that field, and rightly so. intel-style processors have always limited PCs, in comparison.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:37:15 am)

Froupie:
i think to understand a culture fully you need to immerse yourself in it and be a part of it before you make sweeping generalisations. i'm sure there are the stereotypical good and bad muslims just as in any culture.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:37:45 am)

Myk Murphy:
as awfully generalized as heruka's comments can be, there is more than a kernel of truth within. middle eastern scholars are well aware that their culture, and thus people, are stunted from 700 years of stagnation. that stagnation has real cultural repercussions in the west. i think that people can be "multicultural" while still keeping a critical eye on cultures, including one's own.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:40:43 am)

Froupie:
i think there are bigger fish to fry in the world. let the muslims get on with their thing and mind our own business. thats what i think.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:44:20 am)

Froupie:
i wonder if a mac is better for music programs
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:50:06 am)

Myk Murphy:
i can tell you that mac is much better for multi-track audio recording. my band uses both, mostly PC, but are well aware that the mac option is technically better.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:52:52 am)

Froupie:
i wonder if ohrwurm has heard that scottish band franz ferdinand, theyre very good.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:55:07 am)

Myk Murphy:
i wish i could agree on the muslim issue, froupie. it's just that we can't let another unemployed generation of muslim youth get wahhabist propaganda in the brain and then go out and blow something up. we've already tried ignoring them.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:56:10 am)

Myk Murphy:
great name for a band.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 8:56:31 am)

Froupie:
its good that we can agree to disagree.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:01:11 am)

Froupie:
let our nations hold hands across the ocean. or something.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:01:29 am)

Myk Murphy:
yes, there will be so much hand holding. we'll need a string of little boats to pull this off, of course.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:02:34 am)

Froupie:
did i tell you about the massive crush i have on my tutor? i think hes brazilian.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:03:09 am)

Froupie:
you can't say i don't do my bit for world peace.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:03:30 am)

Myk Murphy:
bringing people together: one brazilian at a time.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:04:11 am)

Froupie:
hes got a lovely accent. might not be brazilian but sounds south american. he was telling me all abotu the war in tibet. fascinating, it was.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:07:26 am)

Myk Murphy:
find out if he speaks spanish or portuguese. if it's the latter, you have a brazilian on your hands.
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:13:25 am)

Froupie:
i shall do. is it snowing there myk?
(Mon Jan 19, 2004 - 9:17:40 am)
