Chewing Wax:
hard to describe really. taste like a sort of slightly sweet carbonated lemon-lime soda
(Wed Aug 2, 2000 - 12:04:22 pm)
Myk Murphy:
zima tastes like a gin-and-tonic gone horribly wrong, merged with lemon-lime soda.
(Wed Aug 2, 2000 - 12:08:36 pm)
Chewing Wax:
the important phrase is "horribly wrong". Actually, I liked it for a little while. Then it started tasting very funny to me and gave me awful pains down my left side.
(Wed Aug 2, 2000 - 12:17:00 pm)
Myk Murphy:
what makes it worse is that i despise a well-made gin and tonic, so i wasn't too receptive to zima. and the pains down the side settled the issue for me.
(Wed Aug 2, 2000 - 12:22:13 pm)
Sleepy:
Goodnight popkids.
(Wed Aug 2, 2000 - 1:07:38 pm)

Clearmalt beverage" launched by Coors in 1992, at the tail end of the brief clear products fad. Zima, distributed nationally by 1994, is essentially beer filtered through charcoal to remove all "beer cues"--i.e., color and flavor--and then injected with flavorings that make it taste something like a flat, metallic gin and tonic. Zima aggressively targeted young drinkers via promotional CDs and an Internet presence that included sponsorship of Wired magazine's World Wide Web site. It broke into the top 20 U.S. beer brands by 1995, but Coors was perturbed that Zima was largely considered a "girls' drink" (most popular with women aged 21-34). To entice the heavier-drinking under-34 men, Coors launched Zima Gold in 1995; tasting something like a flat, metallic rum and Coke, this variant was advertised as more "bold" than Zima--meaning in part that it had an alcohol content of 5.4 percent versus Zima's 4.7 percent. Despite a $14 million push, the initial response to Zima Gold was less than sparkling.

According to a reliable source, the Soft Boys will be touring Britain in February of 2001 and America the following month. Coinciding with the tour, Underwater Moonlight will be reissued on Editions PAF! early in 2001. While the possibility of new material has not been ruled out, the focus is on rereleasing Underwater Moonlight first. Apparently they've had one rehearsal so far that went pretty well, but Morris isn't used to drumming that hard, and has gone away to build up his strength!
