Chewing Wax:
Are you really very concerned?
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:13:57 pm)

Chewing Wax:
My question is how Rochester is going to manage to lose power during this. It's going to happen. I just don't know how.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:18:34 pm)

Queenie:
they worked very well together, rick and the nuge
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:22:07 pm)

Myk Murphy:
well, to put it this way, i'm on the phone with my brother in law and i'm suggesting that he and family head north and stay with us.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:23:33 pm)

Myk Murphy:
they're in the williamsburg area, and he was just telling me about the evacuations going on in the virginia beach/norfolk areas. these are not sparsely populated areas.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:24:28 pm)

Myk Murphy:
when this thing rolls through here overnight thursday, i won't be sleeping. i'm staying up... sipping a drink and making sure my old windows haven't given out.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:26:00 pm)

Heruka:
anyone here ready to do some looting? if we leave tonight, we can be there by morning, take a nap, them have all night Thursday to loot.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:27:15 pm)

Myk Murphy:
plus, we have another variable to watch... i have gigantic trees that are very close to my house. the good news is that there are so many trees nearby, they tend to protect each other. still, mrs murphy and i won't be on the top floor of our house that night.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:27:59 pm)

Myk Murphy:
TVs and stereo equipment are no good when soggy. bad time to loot.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:28:38 pm)

Chewing Wax:
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you and your family and your property Myk.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:33:54 pm)

Myk Murphy:
thanks, wax. i'm sure we'll all be fine. property is insured, and i could use new windows anyway, but i'd like to make sure that no one takes unnecessary chances.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:36:40 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Carl Hiaasen's Stormy Weather deals with the aftermath of a hurricane in Florida. It's a great book.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:38:04 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Not Great, but a fun read.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:38:51 pm)

Chewing Wax:
But today, it simply couldn't be any more beautiful outside.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:39:14 pm)

Myk Murphy:
the grocery store ought to be a comical experience tonight. we normally go on wednesdays, but this one is special. yesterday i was at home depot getting ductwork, and they had taken all the supplies like tarps and sump pumps and stuck them up front. quite a crowd of lemmings.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:39:23 pm)

Myk Murphy:
a fun read? hmmm... less fun but very interesting "isaac's storm" about the 'cane that destroyed galveston 100 years ago. i have a friend who lives beachfront in galveston. they have nothing to worry about this time.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:41:05 pm)

Chewing Wax:
I've got my baseball bat for home defense.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:41:47 pm)

Decoy:
I'll go hoard some gas if it will make you feel better, Wax. Its true - somehow we will lose power.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:42:02 pm)

Myk Murphy:
yeah, the weather has been absolutely perfect for days now. strange how that works. perversely, the weather is projected to be just as nice after isabel roars through. like she never came.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:42:14 pm)

Heruka:
I have traps set up, so if anyone tries to break in, well, let's just say they won't get to far..
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:44:50 pm)

Decoy:
I just get the feeling that the sea change in the weather is right behind her.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:44:52 pm)

Heruka:
we've also got our own security force at the ready.

(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:47:07 pm)

Decoy:
This has to be illegal:

(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:47:12 pm)

Chewing Wax:
What an asshole
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:48:15 pm)

Decoy:
Well, if you can afford a bulldozer, I guess its your prerogative to move shit around...

Of course that will all be gone along with the rest of the beach by tomorrow night. Idiot is just building a giant sand castle which will get wiped by the 11 foot storm surge.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:50:22 pm)

Heruka:
he's trying to save his property. can't blame him. is he allowed to own the beach?
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:50:31 pm)

Decoy:
I would probably do the same thing, and the insurance company probably brought him a can of diesel to help out.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:51:47 pm)

Heruka:
possibly, but he's changing how the beach will react to the waves and surge. by creating a steeper incline as apposed to a softer angle, it may have ability to weaken the incoming waves significantly. hmm, I wonder if there's a calculation that would support this threory.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:53:24 pm)

Heruka:
but on ethe other hand, the wider beach would slow the waves down befoee they reach him, no? who knows, it's worth a shot.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:54:12 pm)

Mrs Dr GB:
I'm terribly concerned about you all. Would you all go and hide under the stairs please?
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:54:16 pm)

Chewing Wax:
It's sort of like building a levy out of sand bags.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:54:45 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Hello GB. Only Myk is in any kind of serious danger. The rest of us are way out of harms way.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:55:23 pm)

Chewing Wax:
I'll knock on some wood.
(Wed Sep 17, 2003 - 4:55:46 pm)
