Decoy:
I knew a guy in college who honestly didn't know where any ciry was except Albany. I mean, he heard of a lot of cities, but didn't know where any of them were. I can't imagine that.
(Fri Sep 12, 2003 - 4:58:22 pm)
Heruka:
not knowing where someones lives within a particular city is hardly a lack of knowledge in geography, numbnuts.
(Fri Sep 12, 2003 - 4:59:07 pm)
Heruka:
well, except for NYC and long Island, NY is hicksville.
(Fri Sep 12, 2003 - 4:59:44 pm)
Myk Murphy:
while i agree that people should know where various cities are, it's funny how new yorkers (not bela) usually assume that everyone on earth knows where the various neighborhoods of nyc are located, and seem annoyed if someone doesn't know this.
it would shock most new yorkers how oblivious most americans are to the city and its activities. we see it on tv, and grieved for it during the attacks, but i feel just as connected to chicago or LA as new york, and no chicagoan wonders whether i know where their little italy is.

Hello. I've just got back from my first office do at my new firm. People tell you useful things when they've had a drink. The IT guy took photographs endlessly. Goodnight.

Myk Murphy:
it's never too early to get the dirt on your colleagues. now you know which folks are mean or nice. the bad part is that you now know who's sleeping with whom, and unpleasant images fill your mind as you pass these folks in the office corridors. giggle.

(Sat Sep 13, 2003 - 11:02:09 am)
Heruka:
hey Murph, the biggest thing that irks me is when people consider themselves better and smarter because they live in a big city. as though they get knowledge from by osmosis. frankly, I think people who live in large cities are more suseptible to a lot of the bs that's out there, and confuse the difference between pop culture and something of substance.

Detlef Sping:
And with a disco beat, you're watching the dancing meat..

The pineapples are singing to me ripening in the streetcorner trees, The wild monky's are hula dancing in the golden sun. It's great.
(Sat Sep 13, 2003 - 3:25:56 pm)
Myk Murphy:
not so sunny here, what with the leftovers of hurricane Henri, but the sun has peeked out at us. went to kick the soccer ball a bit, but my leg is still smarting from last week. i'm supposed to head to the seashore next week, but Isabel may change our plans if it heads north.
yeah, heruka, it's true that urbanites tend to think that they're in the cultural, intellectual, or political vanguard. while a city is more likely to be a center for worthwhile debate, most folks are just dazzled by the latest fashions. fashion may be fun, but some wrap self-worth into the whole scene. kinda sad.

News:
Saturday, September 13, 2003 CANCUN, Mexico (AP) -Hundreds of crap covered protesters staged an hours-long standoff with Mexican police Saturday, cutting through metal barricades, throwing feces and threatening to storm a World Trade Organization meeting. The group dispersed peacefully after several hours, failing to break through police lines. Many still declared Saturday's actions a victory. "The WTO has definitely failed to stop us from throwing our feces, protester Rafael Alegria said, drawing cheers from the stinky crowd.
