bela:
I wouldn't really worry about it.

Decoy:
"Simply?" Are you sure you know what you're talking about here? They can look for specific types of genetic sequences that they know where they are and what they look like like. But they can't just scan for cancer.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 12:01:58 pm)
Heruka:
my guess is if you were seeing the generation before you begin to develop cancer and die, then yeah, you would worry about it.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 12:02:19 pm)
Heruka:
no, there's a certain gene in our famiy that carries the cancer, they test to see we have that gene, conmsidering not all genes are passed from generation to generation. it's a possibility, but a slight one, that I didn't recieve the gene.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 12:03:48 pm)
Decoy:
Like I got screened for CF and it turned out that I don't carry the gene. But just for your family?
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 12:04:56 pm)
Heruka:
no. I'm sure other families with raging histories of cancer can go through the same process. the doctors and geneticists talked us into it. they're trying to develop medication that either kills the gene and controls it, so it won't produce the cancer cells.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 12:07:04 pm)
Heruka:
IA think I paid $300 for the test.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 12:09:00 pm)
Decoy:
I just read this on CNN:
WOBURN, Massachusetts (AP) -- It's been three years since scientists completed a rough draft of the human genetic code, but nobody's rushing out yet for a personal DNA analysis. That's because the first draft took 12 years and cost billions of dollars.
Today, the cost has fallen, but only to around $50 million. The target price is orders of magnitude away: $1,000 for an individual's DNA sequence.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 12:13:07 pm)
Heruka:
wow. cnn, it has to be true.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 12:14:23 pm)
Heruka:
I'll file that one in with the one when in the fall of 2000 before the election, and after the company I worked for layed off more than half of its work force CNN's panel of experts all came to a unanimous decision that the econmoy was showing no signs of slowing down.

Jerry Seinfeld said something interesting on the tv last night. He said "I'm a good natured person but everything annoys me". Thats exactly me.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 1:47:03 pm)
Sleepy:
On Friday I'm going to my first 'do' at my new place of work. Unfortunately, the IT man insists on filming everyone at every social event. I think I'll stand behind him all night.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 1:55:00 pm)
Sleepy:
Already I can tell that the new Josh Rouse album is fabulous. And I'm only on track one. This is going to be great. Everyone's playing gigs again. Thank goodness. R.E.M. seems so long ago.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 1:56:34 pm)
Decoy:
So when your bra comes undone and you're out, do you leave it? Or do you excuse yourself politely and re-sling?
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:15:07 pm)
Decoy:
Sleepy, you could spill something on him and hope that makes him avoid you.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:15:53 pm)
Detlef Sping:
Bits of spinach draped randomly on your front teeth will keep you from being bothered.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:31:52 pm)
Detlef Sping:
Just smile and breathe very raspilly, if that is a word.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:35:13 pm)
Detlef Sping:
Or take along a harmonica.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:37:45 pm)
Detlef Sping:
There's nothing worse for an IT film documentary than filming a person with spinach stuck in their teeth, blowing a harp.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:40:17 pm)
Heruka:
or you could roll in dog doodoo on the way to shindig. that'll keep em all at bay.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:40:43 pm)
Detlef Sping:
But that might get you more attention than you want.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:43:45 pm)
Detlef Sping:
the bouncers boking and trying to throw you out.
(Mon Sep 8, 2003 - 2:44:28 pm)
