Myk Murphy:
thanks for the URL, heruka. interesting read... sure, i bet the pentagon didn't mind playing up the human interest story for the silly media types to eat up. still, the funny part of this "those darned yanks" story was the "downing street's man" at centcom who was enraged that the pentagon wasn't completely forthright and sharing all knowledge. could this be genuine? ever since vietnam, ALL militaries attempt to manage information and spin things. i doubt that our allies and friends are very different from the US military.
on a personal note, i'm so happy that the euro-left press is reduced to splitting hairs on a war footnote. kinda hard to discredit the liberation when thousands of political foes are found dead. ...although, this blood is on our hands, indirectly. whether or not to overthrow in '91 is open to debate.

I don't dislike the Brits. Not really at all. I just think they're a product of a media with a very narrow viewpoint.
I've always questioned the story. But I suspect the Iraqi was actually part of Saddams military, then when he saw an opportunity to get in good with thw Yanks, he jumped at the chance.

I also heard that the pentagon has put a hollywood director on the payroll to school them in how to present military action to the people in an engrossing and patriotic fashion. I can't remember which director -- I think it was the guy who did "black hawk down".

That story about tJessica Lynch is also being run on bbc. But it's till doubtful that it's true. More like anti-bush Brits magifying some ciomments made by some quack. Besides, botht the stories are incredibly weak and seem to be filled with 'this is how it should be' sentiments.

"We were surprised. Why do this? There was no military, there were no soldiers in the hospital," said Dr Anmar Uday, who worked at the hospital.
"It was like a Hollywood film. They cried 'go, go, go', with guns and blanks without bullets, blanks and the sound of explosions. They made a show for the American attack on the hospital - action movies like Sylvester Stallone or Jackie Chan."
Well, there is a war going on idiot. and a dirty war too. with Iraqis forcing civilians to run into the gunfight and posing as civilians. apparently, they were supposed wander in casually wearing hawai'ian shirts and Bermuda shorts.
It stiil astounds me. Russia was giving info to Saddams regime up until we actually began bombing, the French have apparently given some of Saddams people passports to Europe, and everyone, including the UN was on the take with this food for oil program, and yet, we're still the bad guy. Eeek.

Anyway. Bush tried to sel that war on a certain cause. One grander than the Serbia issue. The suck was that no one wanted to come along for that reason; and no one would have come along to depose a scumbag terrorist dictator. Whatever the means the end is good. So there.
