Iron & Wine's debut album 'The Creek Drank the Cradle' is a laid back piece that conjures up images of sitting on ramshackle porches in the most pleasant parts of the South. Ranging from acoustic, very blues-like tracks to the almost early bluegrass influence of tracks like 'The Rooster Moans', 'The Creek Drank the Cradle' is an awe inspiring album with insanely beautiful vocals, perfect finger picked guitars, and the occasional steels guitar or even banjo thrown in for taste. The low budget sounding recording is very deliberate and infatuating. From beginning to end, Iron & Wine (or more truthfully Samuel Beam who performed, wrote, recorded and produced the entire record from his home studio) manage to set a mood of calm that few artists could ever hope to achieve.
