Tokyo - Recently a new "kind" of Ramen has been released. "Wanko" a play on words from the Japanese "wanko" which is slang for "doggie," is now on the market! Ramen Santoka, before releasing the ramen for dogs, first had to solve the problem of human ramen being too salty. "Dogs want to be like their masters," says the President of the ramen company, Ramen Satoka. To test the ramen, various dogs who had never had it before apparently scarfed it down in no time flat.

Myk Murphy:
that's thoughtful of you, wax. yes, still home, although i probably would have been fine as i approached town. the way things are around here, downtown dc is always a couple degrees warmer, which put it above freezing by around 9am. still, i was able to get a lot done here at home, where i can access stuff i can't at the office.

Myk Murphy:
yes, but then you'd have to live in los angeles. i've never really heard anyone say "gee, i love living in LA". people often love california but hate LA. the cost of living must be absurdly high.
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:13:55 pm)
Chewing Wax:
Only the realestate is high. Food and junk and stuff is the same. I like LA a lot. I'd live there for sure.
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:15:30 pm)
Chewing Wax:
A $150k house here would be well over a million in LA.
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:16:01 pm)
Chewing Wax:
So you really have to be pulling down a household income over 200k a year to enjoy the place. Unless you're a dullard.

we're talking about going commune-style, living with justina and donna and her kid. rental houses aren't that much, it seems, depending on where. and split four ways...
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:17:17 pm)
Chewing Wax:
Where's bela?
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:17:25 pm)
Queenie:

(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:18:00 pm)
Chewing Wax:
That's true. I lived in a commune for eight years working at In and Out Burger. And then Carl jr's.

I searched for IT jobs in Portland, came up with 6 results, all stuff I can't do. Same search for LA yielded 108 results, many of them shit I could do blindfolded. You know, a lot of the placement agencies I've worked for up here have offices down there, I wonder what they could do for me.

portland feels like a sinking ship these days. did you know that they may cut all high school athletics in portland? can you believe that?
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:20:14 pm)
Chewing Wax:
That's very sad
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:20:54 pm)
Chewing Wax:
What about that super rich Paul Allen guy? Can't he pony up the dough for athletics. The fucker wanted to steal our hockey team for Portland.
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:21:44 pm)
Queenie:
a lot of kids who want to play college sports are just fucked. and what about all the potential recipients of athletic scholarships? lame and offensive, it is.
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:23:06 pm)

(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:23:40 pm)

Took me a while to find confirmation. Apparently it's not big news.
Team sports and the long-running Outdoor School will be tossed from the Portland School District budget next spring as part of a new batch of cuts Superintendent Jim Scherzinger disclosed Monday night.
(Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 4:32:47 pm)
Queenie:
Meanwhile, a new round of state cuts announced Monday means that Oregon public schools will take about $47 million in additional hits this year. For Portland, which enrolls slightly less than 10 percent of Oregon pupils, that means an additional $4.5 million in cuts, Scherzinger said.
In total, the $360 million budget that Portland schools adopted this year is short about $55 million in revenue. As a result, the district proposes to cut 15 school days this spring and cut pay and benefits for teachers and all employees.
