Heruka:
Nice here too. There was a deer in the backyard this morning. right out in the open, when I opened the door to let Seamus out, I noticed it. It then slowly trotted through the neighbors yards and out of sight. It's rutting season, they're on the move. I won this off ebay. $31. neat book I think. Nie to have an old book called "the book of Puka-Puka on the shelf. Did I over pay? Probably. But neat just the same. And a good read I bet too.

Hey Heruka, I'd like to thank you for pointing me in the direction of East River Pipe, I bought Gasoline age and Shing hours in a can and was blown away. I think it's some of the most honest soulful music I've heard in a very long time. It's hard to believe it was all done on a Tascam 388, in a small living room in Queens. Thanks again for your insightful exquisite taste in music. Later.

It's definately fall here the colours are fantastic and the early morning low billowy fog is beautiful. I'm having my entire linoleum floors replaced with ceramic tile it's turning out nice and gives the living room a great echo to use in recording, as an added feature. I also bought a new 6 foot clawfoot bathtub , which I painted the outside of green with Melamine paint, and having the bathroom tiled in 4 inch forest green tiles ceiling and walls with the same Italian porcelain ceramic tiles as on the floor in the rest of the house... we had to lay a complete new plywood sheeting over the old floor one end of the house to the other, to tighten the wood floor for the tiles ..what a job.. I'm glad it's all coming together so well. I was a bit scared at the beginning that it would work out but my fears were unfounded. We had all the furniture in one room while the tiles were setting.. it felt like we were living in a crack house. later

Book Review:
This was one of the best books I've ever read. The book is a long narrative of past events and times that Robert Frisbie spent on Puka Puka, one of the most secluded atolls of the Cook Islands. If anyone out there has read and enjoyed "An Island to Oneself" by Tom Neale (of Suwarrow fame), then I HIGHLY recommend this book. Some of Frisbie's descriptions of the atoll itself left me wanting to be there more than anything in the world. He really allows the reader to see just how splendid Puka Puka is. As a warning I would say DON'T read this book UNLESS you are 100% secure with where you are right now...by the time you're done with it, you'll be looking for your own private island.

News as it sneaks in:
On Tuesday, 13 undocumented Mexican citizens were discovered in a van on Interstate 390 near Avoca and detained. On Sunday, three men from Narlicker India were arrested in Painted Post after hiding in a tractor-trailer and illegally crossing the Canadian border into the United States. "I think it was just a coincidence that it happened within such a short period of time," said Randy Renn, intelligence agent for the Buffalo sector of the U.S. Border Patrol. "It could be that there's more of this going on and we just happened to get lucky and catch these two particular ones right now." The Canadian truck driver was not aware that three men and two women were living in the back of his tractor-trailer, Renn said Thursday. During a stop, the women were let out for "a leak" and picked up, likely by the smuggler who put the five people in the truck initially. The three men were going to be left drinking in the back, he said. "They asked the driver if he would continue to take them down to the New York City area, and if he'd let them ride up in the front because they were drunk and getting cold in the back of the trailer," Renn said. While en route to New York, the enraged driver left Interstate 86 at the Painted Post exit and turned the three singing men over to police at the state police barracks. The three men are being held at the Immigration Detention Center in Batavia, N.Y., Renn said, noting that they were lucky to get out of the trailer before something serious happened to them, he said. The two women were still at large, Renn said. Some information has been obtained about who picked them up, but officials don't have a good description of the vehicle, he said, just that it was a Subaru station wagon.

Heruka:
Strangely, I just read 'an island to oneself' last week. It's posted on the internet. The people who write these books are generally not writers, and have no formal education as such. So the books, while being rough around the edges, often have a more realistic feel to them, as opposed to being sheer gloss and fluff. And I think the authors tend to be a little honest with htheir feelings. Occasionaly there's a little lie. But it makes for a more interesting read. I could have picked up the book on paperback I guess, but I'm a geek for old hardcovers. I had to secure down the trailer today, there's tornados west of here and heading this way.
While packing up my summer clothes, I opened a box of moth balls that suggested they have a 'lavender' scent to them. I think they smell like urinal cakes. Is this how lavender smells? Like a mens room at Dennys?
Yeah, Mooch. Save Mel till last. Sadly, most of the leaves have fallen off the tress is the last couple of days. Makes for a pleasurable time watching them fall, as the last few days were unquestionably the best to go on walks like we did. Perfect soul-soothing weather.

Heruka:
paperbacks just don't seem to be as good. inside they're the same, but holding a paperback while reading it seems unnatural. a hardcover sitting on the shelf seems to stand the test of time. it ages gracefully. it weathered pages, a stain here or there, a well worn cover. it a thing to admire and respect. a paperback once finished just seems to be taking up space.

the perfect weather made its way here, too. at this hour, it's still nearly 70 degrees outside. wonderful. the mg got its last hurrah today, zipping along the back roads of northern va. yesterday, i was in a bookstore at the same time that dick cheney was. we saw the obvious secret service vehicles outside, so we went in to see which bigshot might be there. oddly enough, we didn't see cheney. he's some sort of apparition, one that can cloak and uncloak at will. they left when we were still shopping, and i asked mrs murphy if she saw anything. she didn't, and neither had i, since it's a good idea not to be so obvious about trying to spot someone protected by well-trained and -armed men. the guy at the counter mentioned who it was, and that he comes by every once in a while. i hope he shies away from the erotic novels... that ticker of his won't hold up.

Heruka:
So I let the dog out this morning, then I go and do a few things. Moved some things around, getting this room prepared to paint, as I'm painting it this week. I go to let him in, and he's covered in mud. From head to toe. Apparently his mining operation, trenches his dig up out there are now mud pits, and he's been rolling in them. So I have to carry him from the bacldoor to the bathtub, mud is dripping everywhere, he's squirming and I'm now getting all muddy. Well, he had his bath and he's spotless. What a beginning to the week. Ack.

I have a half inch gash on my nose. Azure bites.

Mining operation eh? Make sure he isn't collecting machine parts. Sometimes they build things. Evil things.
(Mon Nov 11, 2002 - 9:30:40 am)

Heruka:
He's got 4 or 5 trenches out there about a foot deep each. He's had one tunneling under the patio. I filled that in. As I;m going to do to the rest before winter sets in. Those things can be dangerous when hidden under the snow. Puppy bites Something inncocent about them. Dog bites, not so innocent.
Browns had an open day yesterday too. At least it wasn't another loss.

I don't think I'd trust myself to be near someone with Secret Service protection. I'd throw myself at them screaming 'set the chickens free' or similiarly asinine.Or I'd just scoot closer and closer while pretending to be reading.

That had to hurt

I made the most beautiful cheeseburgeron the grill yesterday. Nice and thick, medium done on the outside, while still read and moist and bleeding a bit on the inside. Swiss and American cheese. Onions, tomato and lettuce. Nicely toated bun. And some homade fries on the inside.
(Mon Nov 11, 2002 - 10:15:38 am)

Do you make Seamus a hamburger? I always make tom make a hamburger for the dogs. They love it.

this woman I know from the shelter her dog died this weekend. I guess she bought some food in a bag and she left it on the table and when she got home the dog got the plastic bag over its head and it suffocated. So be careful.
(Mon Nov 11, 2002 - 10:19:08 am)

bela:
It was a pitbull sort of dog, I don't think those dogs are too smart sometimes but I guess she was devastated. I would freak out if I came home and one of my pets was dead on the floor with a bag over its head. You all be careful with your puppies.
(Mon Nov 11, 2002 - 10:20:37 am)

Heruka:
Pits and Rots should be outlawed. Or at least severly taxed. I find bags on my dogs head regularly.
(Mon Nov 11, 2002 - 10:27:08 am)

bela:
I'm with you. Any sort of status dog should be taxed just because it seems that the wrong people keep them and reckelessly breed them. its so insane breeding a pitbull.
