There's a lot of reggae that most people dont hear. Those guys spend a lot of time making songs and smoking the wacky weed. God bless them.

I've always found it funny that reggae is basically middleclass/upperclass whitey music. American blacks never got into I don't think. Too busy listening to Earth Wind and Fire I guess.

The blokes in England got me started on it when I was there. Nobody I knew here lostened to it. Then I kind of lost interest in it myself and went back to being more of a Dead head.

Marley was different though. he really succeeded in transcending alomst anything. race, class whatever. a lot have tried, most have failed. it usually ends up being self-rightous crap.

i only saw the dead once, just a couple months before jerry wandered off into the sunset. one of our group was not only stoned, she was somewhat claustrophobic. we had stadium floor seating, so she needed to get to higher ground (in elevation, not intoxication) to keep from freaking out. that was kinda odd, kinda funny. her famous quote was something like, "there's so many people... and the song won't end." needless to say, we laughed a long time about that. as for reggae, classic roots reggae is certainly beloved by the affluent college crowd, but what's not to like? honestly, the fact that reggae never had a huge impact amazes me. i could take or leave it, mostly, but it's such a happy sound. the pro-drug message certainly gave it many friends.
