queenie, the decoy fellow is right. life without health insurance is entirely too risky. while anecdotal, i've been told that one can walk in off the street and get a reasonably priced plan with an HMO. say what one will, HMOs are generally acceptable, and will do the expensive stuff when needed. given weight and smoking issues in the family, not to mention sidney's asthma, it is worth sacrifice. cigarettes cost too much per pack these days to be anything but wasteful luxury, as well as a toxin. cash & carry medicine is counting on good luck, but we all know what happens to good luck ...it runs out.

Well I did a little math today, figured out how much Ken & I spend on smoking every month, then I got some free insurance plan quotes, and believe me, I would have to quit smoking AND give up other luxeries such as electricity or a home to pay for a health plan. And even then, there's co-pays and deductibles. I know that it's a good thing to have in case of emergencies, but fuck me, it's a lot of money to spend on that gamble.
