today was delightful, weather-wise. lots of rain and clouds to come, they say. meanwhile, my fair city is under attack by protesters! they're finding out the hard way that DC cops are a bit less tolerant than seattle cops. i'm all for protest, but protesting the IMF for all the world's ills is like yelling at your barber because your car won't start. just like seattle, almost everyone is peaceful... but god help the poseur anarchists, on the receiving end of the tear gas and the police batons and the rubber bullets and the hey hey hey...

Hey all. Mooch, I am now initiated: I listened to Some Plastic Flowers and Fruit, side one, all the way through. It had its moments. Thanks for sending it. I especially liked the first 5-10 minutes -- first Quiet Sun then Interstellar Overdrive came to mind. John Cage is chuckling happily somewhere, cheering on the spirit of noise.

“The English – probably because of owning India – have always been better on tea than coffee. When De Gaulle arrived in Britain in 1940 and was given a cup of something to warm him up, he honestly didn’t recognise what that something was. “Thé?” he asked hopefully. It was coffee – à la mode Anglaise. Suddenly the wehrmacht didn’t seem so awful.”
