I've never really understood the need for adopted folks to know their birth parents. I guess it would sort of plague you, not really knowing where you come from. but my fear of rejection would probably outweigh my curiosity. I have another friend who was basically abandoned by her dad when she was a baby, and she knows his name and where he lives and she is afraid to ever call him for fear that he'll act uncaring or uninterested or whatever.

The girl I know whose mom made her give up the baby -- her mom was super religious and the girl was young and her mom convinced her to do what she thought was the right thing. But her mom made it clear that she would have no party to the girl keeping the baby on account of it was proof of her daughter's sinful ways.

Queenie:
Ironically, that mother later turned into an S&M freak.

Heruka:
I like women who've been dumped by their parents They have lower self esteem, allowing me to 'do' them without much of a challenge. Aaahh, nothing like a female who doesn't understand the difference between cheap sex and an emotional bond.

Queenie:
The fact that my gleaning sickens you is of little concern to me, especially when I still have $300 to raise. But I thought maybe, just maybe, one of you was interested enough in the project to help see it through, since I've been talking about it for so long and everything. But I know it would be really embarrassing for your friends to know that you supported me.

The concept of gleaning is a fascinating subject. In Europe, the history of it is related to peasant women who rummaged for bits of wheat left after the harvest. Several fine paintings have been produced of these events, which demonstrates the respect that some have for those that glean.
(Tue Jul 2, 2002 - 3:19:25 pm)

Queenie:
I can't say my gleaning has gained much respect. But I've gleaned over $600 so far which is all that matters.
(Tue Jul 2, 2002 - 3:21:10 pm)

Chewing Wax:

Gleaners on Gleaning: "We are not afraid of getting our hands dirty, you can always wash your hands"…Claude, unemployed, living in a box "I live 100% on things I retrieve from trash. I have eaten 100% trash for 10 years, I've never been seriously ill." …Francois On domestic appliances, " I patch and fix fridges, and once the machine works again, I sell it, or I give it away to my neighbors"…Salomon, a gleaner of food and film equipment.
