Heruka:
Really. It's not true. Hitchcock peaked in '87 and his declined has probaly stopped already. The two dozen people who buy his albums will always buy his albums. Phillips is a bump in the road. Destined to be flipping burgers when he's 50. Or playing shows that are attended by 5 people or less and pretending it doesn't matter.

Decoy:
The library computer called like that last weekend, it was really weird. I listened to the whole thing twice.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:07:26 pm)

Queenie:
Well they both pack houses around here.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:07:41 pm)

Heruka:
change your phone number. or pay your bills.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:07:42 pm)

Heruka:
that's because Portland is the land of doofus hipsters.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:08:27 pm)

Queenie:
And really, Phillips has been releasing music for almost 10 years now. That's not anything a bump in the road could accomplish, methinks.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:08:41 pm)

Queenie:
Doofus hipsters? Now I KNOW that's the name of Myk's band.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:09:02 pm)

Decoy:
What? A bar? or a 1200 seat hall, or a 10,000 seat arena? What's a hous?
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:09:30 pm)

Chewing Wax:
It's true. There were maybe thirty people at the LA show when I saw them. It was sad and pathetic. And they pretended it didn't matter.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:09:42 pm)

Queenie:
I'm not changing my phone number! And the funny thing is, I don't even know what fucking debt they're trying to collect. Once I called them back, but only long enough to tell them to stop calling! If anything, the calls doubled after that. Fuckers.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:09:49 pm)

Decoy:
"doofus hipsters" That's from Seinfeld.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:09:52 pm)

Heruka:
he should have a 10 year celebration: "10 years of crap".
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:10:12 pm)

Decoy:
heheh
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:10:28 pm)

Queenie:
Decoy -- in the last couple of years I've seen both Phillips and Hitchcock bring in around 300 to 500 people a show, depending. Soft Boys pulled in a lot more. Phillips' last show was shoulder-to-shoulder at Berbati's which is a really big room. I dunno. I'd say 3 to 5 hundred.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:11:35 pm)

bela:
Robyn is playing the Bottom Line here, thats got to be a few hundred, I've never been there but I assume its bigger than a club.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:12:56 pm)

Decoy:
I've been to Robyn Hichcock shows of a thousand. But he won't come to a city of less than 10 million people for fear of not getting 50 to show up.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:13:24 pm)

Decoy:
Now, that is.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:14:00 pm)

Decoy:
I'm listening to "Porgy And Bess" over and over and over.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:14:12 pm)

Heruka:
after a 25 year career an in a metro area of 10 million, he plays clubs that hold less than 500. that's sad. Even the Church do better than that.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:14:35 pm)

bela:
When I went to the Coolidge Corner to see Storefront, and he was there and opened the film with some talking and playing - the place about half full I would say. That was sort of sad.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:14:40 pm)

Queenie:
I've heard stories of people in smaller cities showing up to see Hitchcock and there'd be like 10 other people there.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:14:48 pm)

Queenie:
It is sad.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:15:07 pm)

Heruka:
What Decoy said.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:15:10 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Not smaller cities. LA. Second biggest city in the country. He packed them in in Buffalo and Rochester. Two cities he completely ignores now.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:16:13 pm)

Queenie:
When I saw Storefront here, the theater was totally packed. They played an Elliot Smith short film first. When that was over, most of the people got up and left.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:16:18 pm)

Decoy:
He used to put 500 people into a soldout Milestones here in Rochester. He won't come near here anymore. Wuss.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:16:22 pm)

Decoy:
Mostly, I'm disappointed.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:16:57 pm)

Queenie:
It's strange that he would ignore places where he used to do well. Bad booking -- could be the fault of his manager guy.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:18:12 pm)

Decoy:
Nietzsche's in Buffalo would be packed, say 600-700, too.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:20:06 pm)

Queenie:
Shit. SHIT SHIT SHIT!
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:21:24 pm)

Heruka:
my gum hurts. where there once was a tooth, it seems a bit sensitive.
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:21:46 pm)

Queenie:
This guy is coming to look at Ken's speakers. But Ken's not here. And he said something to me before about one of them being broken or something. But this guy was on the freeway on his way into town to see them. What was I to do? Tell him to turn back? Fuck!
(Wed Mar 13, 2002 - 4:22:11 pm)

Queenie:
I gave him directions anyway. I mean, he's also interested in the mixing board. Shit, I hope Ken's not mad. Nothing worse than an big enraged man.
