Decoy:
I just noticed that. That was very lucid. And from the man who wrote:

"It's true. The 90's, if you were white and knew it, tried to be what we were in the 80's. They tries too hard. It becane vogue to be unvogue, suddenly, everyone was trying not to be vogue, so the followers did what followers do, they all got piercings. It was just stupid."

Queenie:
Do you paint Decoy, too, like your mom?
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:03:06 pm)

Queenie:
My mom's a toll painter. So not my thing. But lovely nonetheless.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:03:28 pm)

Decoy:
Its hard to explain, but I think I could explain that if I had the time, Q.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:04:29 pm)

Decoy:
... about the Pollack quote, that is.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:04:48 pm)

Queenie:
It's interesting Decoy -- I remember you talking about how the art of photography is in the printing... but couldn't a four year old, if properly instructed, print a photo as good as an adult? Does that cheapen the entire medium for everyone? I don't think so.

Heruka:
Actually, I think that art is kind of silly. I like it. But I think people project a certain mystique to it that's not there. Art is a human creation, and very simple in nature. But anyone can make anything up. I can talk about my socks, using the discussion as a metephor when I'm really talking about the sufferings of humanity. Pretentious I know.

Decoy:
I like to build elaborate decks, its my best medium. Testify, Wax.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:05:57 pm)

Queenie:
Well take the time sometime, because I'd be interested to hear your opinion.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:06:07 pm)

Decoy:
Do people still dodge and burn in and all that? Or is that lost after the Cola wars?
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:06:44 pm)

Queenie:
I don't think that's pretentious, H. I think it's honest.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:06:45 pm)

Queenie:
My brother is teaching me to dodge and burn.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:06:57 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Decoy makes decks that are, in fact, works of art. It's completely true.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:07:31 pm)

Queenie:
That's what it comes down to for me I think: Honesty. And of course skill. Someone could have the most honest intentions in the world and their work could still suck. So maybe that's the formula: Honest and skill.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:07:40 pm)

Queenie:
I believe it, wax.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:07:47 pm)

Decoy:
I will.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:08:17 pm)

Queenie:
I like Pollack's work. I could sit and stare at it and always see something different.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:09:13 pm)

Queenie:
Open question for everyone: Who's your most favorite artist of all time?
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:09:35 pm)

Queenie:
This is one of my friend Erinn's. I love her stuff, they're so simple and pretty, like her

(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:12:34 pm)

Heruka:
Bill Waterson
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:12:57 pm)

Decoy:
The thing about a deck is this: More than most works of art, it is pleasing in all ways. If you choose to appreciate a work for its form, well, a deck can have great potential for a formalistic appreciation. But then it also can have function, like how many people it can hold, or will it support a helocopter. Or it can be expressive, for instance the deck builder may be trying to say something with his deck by making the steps low and the railing tall and the wet bar have an ice maker. Or it just may be that the deck is what it is to the people who use it. There's some balance to be struck in all those quadrants, and that balance, if it works for you is art you like. In short.

bela:
Sping is my favorite artist of all time.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:13:51 pm)

Decoy:
Ha!
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:14:22 pm)

Heruka:
I want a deck with a built in Slushi machine. I also want my own water garden. And while I'm wighing, I wish I had my own pony.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:15:13 pm)

Queenie:
Isn't Bill Waterson the guy who draws Calvin and Hobbes?
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:15:22 pm)

Chewing Wax:

I'm very proud of this photo. I think it's art alright.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:15:25 pm)

Queenie:
All you need to know about life can be learned from deck building, I think.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:15:52 pm)

Chewing Wax:
I don't need people to tell me I'm a genius though. Although it's nice.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:16:05 pm)

Queenie:
Did you take that?
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:16:14 pm)

Queenie:
I would buy that photo.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:16:24 pm)

Decoy:
Heruka is working his art right now.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:16:56 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Thank you. I took it. It was a view out the window of a hotel in Athens. That woman was just sitting there.
(Thu Mar 7, 2002 - 3:17:45 pm)

Queenie:
Is that what he calls it?
