I wish I knew more about gardening. Our yard is huge and weird and full of crazy plants from the guy who used to live upstairs years ago. But then he died and no one else has known how to manage his crazy plants. I don't even know how to take care of the roses, let alone the wisteria or bamboo. It's like the secret garden out there, and everything has thorns.

Heruka:
Does anyone know anything about "mahogany clams"? I've never had them, nor heard of them. At least not that I remember. The local grocery store has them for $1.29 a dozen. I'm guessing they're smaller than cherry or kittle necks. But I'm not sure.
(Sun Mar 3, 2002 - 5:28:11 pm)

Heruka:
Forget it.

MAHOGANY CLAMS

Great Eastern's Maine Mahogany Littleneck Clams (Arctica Islandica) are delicious hard-shell clams harvested from the deep waters off the coast of Maine. They are very close to the littleneck clams or quahogs grown in southern waters and are differentiated only by their deep golden mahogany colored shell. Their unusual coloring is caused by a thin protein layer which protects the clams as they burrow into the ocean bottom.

Our Maine mahoganies are harvested and brought to Great Eastern's Tenants Harbor processing plant where they are purged, culled, inspected for quality and packed in durable Styrofoam boxes. From there, we ship them fresh daily. Our sweet clams are delicious raw on the half shell, steamed and dipped in butter or in chowders.

Great Eastern's mahoganies are nutritious, too. Scientists have discovered that clams are high in Omega 3, a substance found to help lower blood cholesterol. Clams also contain high quantities of important dietary nutrients and minerals.

I vaguely remember a few years ago, Myk mentioning that some of you like The Church. I just got an advance copy of "After Everything Now This", its ok, not Starfish, but OK. "Numbers" might do something on the college charts, but all in all I would rank it alongside "Magician". Brilliant, but unnoticeable. I've only listened to the first 4 tracks, but maybe after Lady Waters and I finish this bottle of wine, we'll like it better. By the way has anyone listened to a guy named Jack Johnson? His debut album, "Brushfire Fairytales" is pretty amazing- check him out at jackjohnsonmusic.com

Chewing Wax:
hello hooded. How are you doing?
(Sun Mar 3, 2002 - 9:07:08 pm)

Heruka :
I was watching c-span the other ay and they had on some sort of EU summit going on. Through all the anit-American the mainland Euroeans were spewing out, a lone Scotsman said that he was not a European nor a North Atlantican but a Scotsman, then proceeded to talk kindly about Americans. That made me happy.

hooded:
Great Wax, thanks. Robyn 4-16!
(Sun Mar 3, 2002 - 11:02:27 pm)

Myk Murphy:
your recollection was correct, hooded. good to hear from you, by the way. yes, heruka and i are big church fans, and like you, we have that latest cd. it's really mellow, and you're right about it not being likely to draw them any attention. i suspect that, at this late date, they are content with just making good music for their established audience. until they figure out a way to mix in some awful hiphop sound into their tunes, respectable semi-obscurity will have to do.
(Sun Mar 3, 2002 - 11:11:55 pm)

Myk Murphy:
yeah, heruka, the scots certainly know how to speak plainly. i'm fond of Lord Robertson, the sec gen of nato. he has flatly told europe that they run the risk of becoming a collective "military pygmy" (his words) unless modernization occurs. the americans aren't likely to seriously consult with armies that can bring nothing helpful to the table, and this scotsman sees the problem clearly.

I watched a show on PBS today -- it was an aerial tour of southern Italy. What a cool place. The show made me want to live there. I love those old clusters of orange-roofed houses, looks like a Cezanne painting. Beautiful! Anyone ever been to Italy?
(Mon Mar 4, 2002 - 12:02:06 am)

Queenie:
And the ruins of 2000 year old structures. I can't even imagine anything so old.
(Mon Mar 4, 2002 - 12:02:32 am)

:
There has never been a show like VISIONS OF ITALY because it is nearly impossible to find a helicopter company in Italy willing to go through the difficulty of acquiring the specific permits needed to shoot over Rome. Precision planning on the ground with compasses determined the best time of day to avoid shadows on the major sites from the many buildings in this densely packed city. Even those who have been to southern Italy have never seen it like this.
