We just got an invitation to Dave Helfrey's wedding. He's one of the top creative directors in advertising in Portland. It's really a sort of an honor that we got invited. His wedding should quite a freak show.

Anyway, every year in Portland they have the Rosie awards, for excellence in advertising. And every year they allow the top firms to create a commercial for exhibition during the awards ceremony. It's pretty cool because guys like Dave can make any sort of commercial they want without having to deal with clients or anything -- it's just for fun. So a couple of years ago, Dave and his people created this short film called "Reach and Frequency", and it was a spoof of a seventies porn film that takes place at an advertising firm. It was quite explicit, and included phrases such as "what does a girl have to do to get something mounted around here" and "I want full penetration on this double page spread" and there was one scene in particular where a woman was in an elevator getting pounded by this guy, and he says, "Say it! Say it!" and she says, "You're Dan Wieden! You're Dan Wieden!" -- Dan Wieden from Wieden and Kennedy was Dave's biggest competitor. Anyway, the film was banned from the awards ceremony and Dave's company boycotted the event. It was great publicity for them. But sadly the website at which you could view the film is no longer. So that's my story.

the Church's ne disc sound great. I may have to buy it. BillBoard review.

Re: Billboard.com Feb 23 review of After Everything-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is the review...."intensely irridescent"...I like that!Few bands whose stars ascended in the '80s are making their best work now, but the Church is on a definite roll. Via Thirsty Ear in the U.S. and Cooking Vinyl in other territories, the Church brought out in 1999 a wonderfully inventive covers collection, Box of Birds, on which the Australian quartet showcased the disparate influences—from George Harrison and Neil Young to Television and Iggy Pop—that informed its poetic, neo-psychedelic sound. (The same year also saw Under the Milky Way, a Buddha/BMG anthology titled after the band's signature song from 1988's Starfish.) Now comes an album of new material that sounds utterly contemporary even as it harks to the band's glory days. Intensely iridescent in sound and subtly abstract in emotion, After Everything Now This brims with intelligent tension and textural depth—all borne along by beautiful, beatific melody. "After Everything" soars, and "Chromium" glows; but the key track is "Radiance," a tale of a Virgin visitation that's infinitely touching in its combination of lyrical detail and silver-hued shimmer.—BB

Myk Murphy:
A warm and sunny day, yet i sit in an office. Boo.

Myk Murphy:
I told you it was a good album, but you didn't take my word for it
(Thu Feb 21, 2002 - 2:36:38 pm)

Chewing Wax:
I believed you Myk. Hey Myk, I'm toying with the idea of getting new speakers to go with my Carver 60 watt receiver, and moving the Infinity S100's upstairs. They have that sweet sound, but since I blew a tweeter, I thought maybe I'd move them upstairs to go with the AV and get new ones for the two channel. I guess the $500 range would be about right. Any recommendations?

bela:
Am I insane or do I remember who the Church are? I'm thinking 80s goth, maybe I'm getting them mixed up with Sisters of Mercy. What did they sing, I know I know who this band is.
(Thu Feb 21, 2002 - 2:45:41 pm)

Chewing Wax:
That's right. 80's goth. Myk and Heruka are both huge goths.
