I always thought the name came from the old days when they used to harvest the salmon runs by waiting for the salmon to come upstream to spawn and then throwing sticks of dynamite into the water to kill them by the thousands. When they float to the surface the children scoop them up with nets. Then they would have the Fishkill festival.
