Duh.

Chewing Wax:
There's not wrong with FUBU my lad. It's good clean clothes.
(Sun Oct 7, 2001 - 10:22:15 am)
Myk Murphy:
actually, queenie, your reasoning is off 180 degrees: because you DO NOT have a regular, consistent income, it is IMPERATIVE that you devise a budgeting plan. the "check a week" crowd doesn't need budgeting tools like this. a real plan can help you keep sidney dressed in all the latest fubu fashions.
(Sun Oct 7, 2001 - 12:10:07 pm)
Myk Murphy:
any guesses as to how bad the redskins are going to be pounded today?

FUBU, the #1 choice for crack dealers, for that I live in the ghetto look. Ask for it by name.

Let the games begin!
(Sun Oct 7, 2001 - 12:24:43 pm)
Chewing Wax:
I really shouldn't comment on that DVD thing.
(Sun Oct 7, 2001 - 12:56:01 pm)
Decoy:
Ooops that was me, not Wax.
(Sun Oct 7, 2001 - 12:56:22 pm)

We are off to the game. Later.

I was shocked and dismayed and I'll add disgusted when I was watching an NFL game Bear vs Falcons when a Volkswagon commercial came on using Nick Drake's Pink Moon tune as its theme. Is nothing sacred anymore??? The Beatles...now this. eh.

Browns defeat the once undefeated Sandiago Chargers. Now, 3-1 for the season
(Sun Oct 7, 2001 - 4:19:55 pm)
Heruka:
That Nick Drake coomercial has been around well over a year. It introduced alot of people to Nick Drake. It even propelled the album "Pink Moon" into the top 10 briefly. Is commercials playind music really that big of a deal? I doubt it. Queenie, you may want to think about Myks statement. Also, a return to some sort of hugher education would be highly recommended. The days of Web page builders earning serious cash are over. Now, every 15 year old with 2 dateless friday nights can build a website. It's really not that hard to do. If you keep expecting to make money out of the deal, you're going to get further and further behind in life. If it was just you and yur husband, that's one thing. But you have a daughter to think about. Not a bad day out really, clear blue skies. But cold. Frost warning tonight.

Myk Murphy:
well, as predicted, the military strikes have begun this evening in afghanistan. this should be interesting, simply because of the scope of this thing.
(Sun Oct 7, 2001 - 4:52:25 pm)
Myk Murphy:
as for nick drake, i am sometimes disturbed by songs used in ads when the artist is deceased and did not sell the rights himself. however, the ad is quite tasteful and pleasant, and if it boosts interest in nick drake's work, then so much the better. personally, i've always enjoyed the ad... i love to drive at night with the top down, as they do in the ad.

Heruka:
So this leaves only the Rams undefeated. I think.
(Sun Oct 7, 2001 - 10:05:59 pm)
Heruka:
I regret mentioning Queenies situation, but she talks about being broke all the time. Then tosses out Myks suggestion like it's not worth even trying. Goodnight.

Heruka:
Oooh!

Had no clue that commercial has been around that long..where've i been? But good point, if it propels awareness...still I have to concur with myk, it's disturbing when you hear your ol' favs esp the deceased ones like Hendrix, Joplin, Lennon and such.. being used as propelling instruments of profit for big business capitolists selling hamburgs and cars..cough..Though I'm an American and somewhat of a capitalist I guess If I'd been in a big a eighties band and been offered a lucrative deal today ..aging and all...I guess hmmm I would have struggled with the idea for a minute or too and the ssaid YES and move on.

As for web design...yeah defineatly a hard way to make a real living..but lots of fun. I've made some money here and there now doing it..but i'm sure a teen age baby sitters got me beat. For me it's just a fun, artistic form of info and expression....check this opening Holloween theme to my age out.. ........................................http://www.theos-place.com/

Queenie:
Three things -- first, as I stated, I do try budgeting but it's hard to do when every cent pretty much just goes to things that were due 3 months ago. It's not like we live an extravagent (sp?) life. We don't even make car payments. We have rent, utilities, dsl, and occasionally cable. There used to be Sidney's tuition, which was almost as much as rent every month, but that expense is no longer. That's it! I don't want to give off the impression that we're sitting here swimming in furs and diamonds purchased on credit while meantime we don't have food. We don't even have a credit card, for crying out loud. We buy everything with cash, and if you saw our things, you would realize that our stuff is mostly pretty crappy. It's true that at one time we had an obscene number of computers, I think nine altogether, but half of them were purchased some time ago, and the other half were given to us from different people. We have sold four of them. If there is some sort of program designed for people with sporadic incomes -- people who make 12k one months and $300 the next, I would like to know about it because it would be very useful.
Secondly, there is a world of difference between web "builders" and web "designers". Yes, any high school freshman can build a website. But it is only a small percentage that can design worth a damn. I was recently hired by one of the largest exhibit design companies around -- with several multi-million dollar accounts with microsoft, levi's, etc -- and trust me, they wouldn't have hired me if my skills were on par with those of a 15 year old with 2 dateless friday nights. Considering the fact that trying to acquire any web job around here these days means competing with 10,000 other highly skilled, out of work and desperate people, it's pretty fucking impressive. But I agree that it would serve me well to learn new types of programming to make myself a bit more valuable.
Third -- higher education? LOVE TO! But unfortunately, going to school does not make one money. In fact, it costs one money. So that's pretty much out of the question.

Queenie:
I watched a very depressing piece on the news the other night about a large job fair in Jantzen Beach -- several thousand people turned out. Software engineers filling out applications for fucking Blockbuster. Network techs trying to get jobs at the Norm Thompson catalog phone bank. Fucking depressing as hell. Oregon unemployment at it's highest ever in 20 years. It's grim, y'all. It's really grim. I wish I at least had some sort of fall-back.
