Chewing Wax:
Thanks pal
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:45:15 pm)

Decoy:
They dont seem to allow online sales but I did find them a few places for prices, but they say available in store only.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:45:17 pm)

orange:
buy a Kona, they're good bikes. think you can get Oranges in the states now, but can't imagine they'd be cheap. What sort of bike anyway, road or mountain?
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:49:15 pm)

Chewing Wax:
I'm more of a road bike type of guy. I haven't owned a bike since 1982 when my beloved 27 inch framed Vista Silver Shadow was stolen right off of my patio.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:52:09 pm)

Heruka:
Aren't Kona's made in Hawai'i? As I recall, Polynesian Hawai'ians call caucasians 'Hokeys'.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:52:15 pm)

orange:
Bianchi do a really cool town bike. Not sure if it comes with a bell, but it wouldn't be out of place. Italian chic. v v v cool.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:53:16 pm)

orange:
Kona's are Canadian. they're popular in the UK because Vancouver has similar weather and mud. Most US bikes are 'californian' and don't like getting wet or muddy. Kinda defeats the point of a mountain bike.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:54:19 pm)

Heruka:
I have an old Bianchi touring frame. Unless my father threw the thing out by now.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:54:24 pm)

Chewing Wax:
But you can ride a mountain bike on the road right?
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:55:13 pm)

orange:
road bikes... yum, dead sexy. go for a steel frame. expensive steel is the best, but it's way expensive. Independent fabrications look beautiful, but cost the earth. Bianchi again, sexy italian bikes and they're not too costly. Maybe Trek for a US one. Kona do road ones too.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:56:36 pm)

Decoy:
The one I got is a "hybrid" as the sales guy explained it. Mountain/Road Bike
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:56:51 pm)

Decoy:
I know nothing, so steel is good? I got steel.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:57:31 pm)

Heruka:
Yes. They provide a better, more comfy ride than standard bikes.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:57:47 pm)

Heruka:
Titanium is the best. More flex.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:58:51 pm)

Decoy:
It seemed like Raliegh has the market cornered on the $200-$500 area. Other brands don't seem to compete there, or did I fall for line?
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:59:28 pm)

orange:
MTB's on the road aren't ideal. far from it. The tyres 'buzz' and wear quickly on tarmac. They're fine for short distances, but if you're only riding on road get a road bike. They're designed for it, the riding position, the frame geometry, everything. MTB gears are designed for cruddy conditions too, so tend to be heavier. Road stuff is lighter and more suited to higher speeds that you get. the gearing is higher and the gears closer together. get a good road bike up to speed and you'll fly, nothing like it.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:59:32 pm)

Decoy:
Oooh, Titanium, I like the sound of that. How much for a titanium frame?
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 12:59:58 pm)

Decoy:
Yikes! No comment.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:02:43 pm)

orange:
Titanium is good, but expensive. It can also be too flexy. Steel is real. Aluminium is quite harsh, but light. Hybrids are a bit of a mystery. they don't fit either situation well. i notice some brands have 'comfort' bikes, which are similar. They're ok, but you can't beat a dedicated machine. Have you looked at Giant? mass produced stuff, but ok. Not sure on many US brands, but Raleigh here does the same thing, as a result they don't have to try and make an effort. A good bike is worth the money, believe me.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:03:00 pm)

orange:
Ti frames will set you back about a grand. You have to get a good one though and they're more!! As i said, they can be very whippy, lots of flex, which isn't god. Go for steel.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:04:08 pm)

Heruka:
I dunno. I only owned one mountain bike. A Diamond Back I bought way back in the '80's. It was stolen..
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:04:17 pm)

Heruka:
I loved that bike.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:05:27 pm)

orange:
back in the 80's they'd steal anything with wheels. Diamondback lost their way, like a lot of bike firms. GT are a good make and now make road bikes. What about gary Fisher, they seem to be everywhere when i go to the states. dunno if they make roadies though.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:06:00 pm)

Heruka:
I remember Fisher was making waves back in the day. Didn't he get bought out? I haven't been into mountain biking for years. Since my bike was stolen. About 3 or 4 years ago. It's ok. They closed off pretty much all of the decent treails around here.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:09:59 pm)

Chewing Wax:
What about Schwinn? Do they still make bikes?
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:15:21 pm)

orange:
Fisher are part of the Trek group, they still have their own 'identity' though.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:16:15 pm)

orange:
Scwinn are still going strong. they're good bikes.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:16:40 pm)

Chewing Wax:
I just checked out their website. Very nice.
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:18:22 pm)

orange:
www.bianchi.it
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:21:23 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Italian eh? You're just like the kid in Breaking Away aren't you?
(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:37:29 pm)

Chewing Wax:
Okay. I bought this one. Is it any good?

(Fri May 11, 2001 - 1:52:08 pm)

Mr. Ashcroft:

Because of slower then expected sales of this pay-per-view event, I have decided to offer a discounted price and delay Mr. McVeigh's execution until June 11th. Order by phone or from you cable and or satelite box.
