Meanwhile, it's sunny and 80F /27C this Halloween afternoon. Reconsider those bulky or furry costumes, kids. This afternoon our neighbors will stand at a foldout table and drink & snack while the local kids (that haven't aged out of the blessed mystery of all hallows eve) will gather absurd amounts of candy on a scavenger hunt assembled by Mrs Murphy. Bags of candy strewn all over the leaf-covered front yards as if Beelzebub had his own interpretation of Easter egg hunts.

All the neighbors donate to it, so the candy haul is substantial. Each kid has his own sticker so you don't end up taking a younger kid's stuff. There's a new thing where kids trick or treat at each popped SUV hatchback in a parking lot. Seems efficient but is that the spirit of Halloween? Maybe there's a version of it for Detroit wherein the kids get to light a chosen vehicle on fire. Maybe the SUV with the shittiest candy on offer?
