Every day it gets stronger and just a little more vile. It's to the point now where I smell it constantly. Last night the cat took a chunk of flesh out of my cheek when I bent down to pet him, could be he smells it too. My friend said it might have something to do with the fact that I stopped brushing my teeth in 1991. I would tend to agree with that but the voice under my bed said no. That's not the case at all but to prove the point I should get the big pliers and pull them out, all my teeth, all of them, all at once. Seems pretty drastic to me but what the heck, the voice was right about my toes. Thing is, I thought they would've grown back by now. Gotta find the pliers.

The interesting thing about d--k's later work is that he began writing about extra-terrestrial intelligences communicating with earth ala Halle-Bop and it's disciples. In some of the stories the protagonist receives satellite transmissions in his sleep. The transmissions are from a distant star, relayed by a satellite above earth. These stories were written about the same time people like Timothy Leary and others were, independent of each other, claiming to be getting messages from distant stars. Robert Anton Wilson has written about these people, and Leary published The Starseed papers. At any rate, it was another example of PKD writing fiction that somehow was popping up as "fact" elsewhere.

Actually, I have many PKD unread as well. But the earlier you get, the less paranoid. Penultimate Truth. Valis (a Trilogy). Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. And the bio that came out in the late '80s. Man in the High Castle is an early '60s novel for which he won awards. Penultimate Truth's premise is classic d--k: a society living underground producing the weapons of war after a holocaust has left above-ground a radioactive desolation. They are ignorant of the fact that the fallout is long gone and the leaders are living above ground and in a paradise of luxury. The people underground are kept there for convenience. Until some of them discover the truth and dig out to find what is awaiting them up top....

M: Stoneground made it as far as being a band featured in one of the last Hammer vampire films (Dracula '70(?)). Got to record the soundtrack at Abbey Road I think. Never had a hit though. They were a large band along the lines of Mad Dogs & Englishmen -- drummers, horns, three or four babes singing backup, keys and guitars and a vocalist.

Sleepy: Verlaine has been known as the "Guitar Hero for the Rest of Us." Television was a two-guitar attack in a city (NY) where people were re-discovering Farfisa organs and trying not to play anything too well. Marquee Moon, the song, is one of the most magnificent recordings ever, culminating in a transcendant guitar solo that shimmers and fades like a slow motion film of a flash bulb going off at close range. The other guitarist in the group, Richard Lloyd, now plays with Michael Sweet. Bowie covered Verlaine's "Kingdom Come" on Scary Monsters.
