It's sad behavior that appears moronic but I also find that "news" items and memes can elbow out proper news & analysis in the constant scroll people do. Sure, loungers like us know the importance of differing viewpoints provided by diverse news sources, but this "news via social feed" feels like the same thing, which is alarming with such unsophisticated voters. Brexit was a good warning shot on this, I agree.
